Cannabinoids are the classification of natural compounds found in the cannabis plant. To date, there are sixty-six different types of cannabinoids, organized by the following subcategories:

Cannabigerols (CBG)

Cannabichromenes (CBC)

Cannabidiols (CBD)

Tetrahydrocannabinols (THC)

Cannabinol (CBN)

Cannabidiol (CBDL)

Of the major cannabinoid categories, THC is far and away the most commonly known and studied. THC accounts for the psychoactive effect that is commonly attributed to cannabis consumption. Some decide to ingest CBD through a vape pen, CBD vape oil is any vape juice that contains CBD instead of nicotine. More recently, CBD has begun to garner attention for its pharmacological properties without psychoactive properties.

When consumed, cannabinoids react with receptors which are located within the body’s central nervous system. The two types of receptors that have been found to date are CB1–occurring in the brain–and CB2–occurring in the immune system. Additionally, we are just beginning to learn about the endogenous cannabinoid system.
